On Saturday, November 15, 2015, a presentation was made to the Brighton Food Bank during our weekly Queen draws, with Pat Akin representing the food bank.
Michael F Branch 100 President and First Vice President Astrida C presented a $5,000 cheque to Brighton Food Bank representative Pat Atkin on behalf of all Legion members.

- We serve approximately 200 families or addresses, including singles, couples, families with children, seniors, and multi-generational households.
- Clients may visit us once a month; food is provided to support, not fully supply. Proof of residency, such as photo ID, is required.
- Seniors without vehicles and individuals with disabilities can request delivery.
Our team consists of about 25 volunteers: some distribute food, others restock shelves, sort donations, check best-before dates, and break down open packages and products (such as meat, hamburger, sugar, toilet paper, vinegar, laundry soap, and Gatorade bottles).
- Volunteers purchase fruits and vegetables weekly.
- Meat (ground beef) and bread are bought when needed.
- Weekly purchases from No Frills include milk, bread, eggs, meat, and other perishable goods, amounting to approximately $1,000.
- Pet food is donated by both the Local Pet Pantry and Bowmanville pet store, with a (volunteer driver, traveling to pick up the donations).
- Sobey’s donates gift cards for in-store use, contributed by customers and matched by corporate funds.
- No Frills provides us with a variety of damaged goods, including milk, eggs, bread, mats, cans, and more.
We are grateful to belong to an amazing and generous community, many of whom support us with monetary and food donations despite facing their own challenges. Our dedicated and caring volunteer team works tirelessly to ensure that every neighbour experiencing food insecurity finds support at our food bank. This cheque from the member of the Brighton Legion will make a significant difference in assisting everyone who comes to our door.
